Underground Railroad
Mount Vernon – Imagine what it would feel like to
be a slave? Imagine hearing about something called the Underground Railroad that would provide you with freedom, IF, you made it through hostile territory and
alluded bounty hunters and well-knowing that if you were caught you’d be whipped and beaten, even more than usual. Would you take the risk?
Bob Ford, writer, musician, historian, will visit the
Chautauqua/Lyceum Series on Thursday June 13 and take you on that imaginary trip and will you might see, hear, feel and imagine, going along the route. As part of the series presented by Elixir and supported in part by The Ohio Humanities Council, Ariel Foundation and Rolls-Royce Charities/Civic Fund, Bob will act as your conductor, based on a real person who helped slaves reach Canada and freedom in the 1800’s.
Bob will transport the audience back in time and let you
experience the real Underground Railroad and your ticket price is a donation.
The event will take place at ThePlace@TheWoodward (111 S. Main Street in historic downtown Mount Vernon, Ohio) on June 13 at 7 PM, doors open at 6 PM.
Don’t forget, Jonathan Winters Chautauqua on June 27.
