H. P. Lovecraft at Chautauqua
Mount Vernon - Virtually unknown and only published in pulp magazines before he died in poverty, L. P. Lovecraft is now regarded as one of the most significant 20th-century authors in his genre, horror fiction. Born Howard Phillips Lovecraft in Providence, Rhode Island, he was ever able to support himself from earnings as author and editor and saw commercial success increasingly elude him, partly because he lacked the confidence and drive to promote himself and his work. He subsisted in his last years living on a small inheritance that was entirely spent by the time he died at the age of 46.
This coming Thursday, February 25, the Chautauqua Series in association with the Ariel Foundation are happy to present Leeman Kessler as H.P. Lovecraft. The event will take place at ThePlace@TheWoodward (120 S. Main Street in historic downtown Mount Vernon). Doors will open at this first floor theater at 6 PM and the program featuring an evening with H. P. Lovecraft will begin at 7 PM.
