Mount Vernon- The 7th season of the only monthly Chautauqua Series in the United States kicks off with an appearance by General Douglas MacArthur, portrayed by perennial favorite Ken Hammontree (NOTE: Ken planned to portray Ronald Reagan but felt the character was not ready to unveil – please refer to www.elixirpresents.com and www.VisitKnoxOhio.org for most current information as changes do occur from time to time or sign up for our gentle reminder email at elixir_petee@hotmail.com and receive a reminder on the Sunday before each program).
Before the famous quote “I shall return” and after “old soldiers never die; they just fade away”, Douglas MacArthur was one of the most respected and yet controversial military leaders in history. On January 10, Elixir presents General Douglas MacArthur at ThePlace@TheWoodward (111 S. Main Street in downtown Mount Vernon, Ohio) at 7 PM (doors open at 6 PM and the facility is on the first floor and wheel chair accessible).
Opening the program will be Desmond Wall, sometimes known as George Harrison, presenting music to set the mood for MacArthur. After Desmond and Ken give their presentations, Ken will answer questions from the audience. The Chautauqua Series is presented on a donation basis.
