The 6th annual Foodstock Concert to benefit the Food For The Hungry campaign will be held at the Memorial Theater (112 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio) on Thursday December 8 (snow date is Monday December 12). Doors will open at 6:15 PM with the program starting at 7 PM.

This year the featured acts are Chautauqua style versions of Emmy Lou Harris, Linda Ronstadt and the headline act, The Eagles. Step by to the music of the 1970’s and 1980’s Southern California sound and enjoy a program that only costs a donation of food (see www.FoodForTheHungryCares.org for the top 10 needed items) and/or money [$1 donation equals $8 of food from the Central Ohio Food Bank). And for those of our neighbors in need, we invite you and your family to the event as a Christmas gift to you from us.

In the past the musicians of this area have made presentations of the Beatles, the Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Buddy Holly, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul & Mary.  This year come and enjoy an evening of music with songs from the entire career of American’s biggest selling group of all time, the Eagles.  From “Take It Easy” to “Hotel California” to “The Best of My Love”  to their last single, “Hole in the World” and adding to the magic, Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Ronstadt.

Food For The Hungry began as a food and money drive on WMVO radio to benefit Interchurch Social Services and the Salvation Army in 1982. Long-time WMVO morning show host Charlie Kilkenny started the drive with the help of his wife, Carol, and businesses at the Mount Vernon Shopping Plaza (now the Kroger Plaza). Mount Vernon Cablevision joined in sponsoring the drive the next year. The drive grew into a partnership between the radio stations and other media (WNZR, Mount Vernon News) in 1995, and added Mount Vernon Nazarene University (who sponsored a basketball tournament) and the accounting services of Nelson & Nelson one year later.

Over the years Food For The Hungry has grown to help out our neighbors in need, and  Elixir Presents Chautauqua Series with the help of the Ariel Foundation, the Knox County Commissioners, the board of the Food For The Hungry Campaign, volunteers and musicians bring an evening of  family friendly music to our community.

Bring your family, friends and yourself to an oasis in the middle of the Christmas season and help the needy with food and/or money and your ears with some excellent music.
