Chautauqua Series Features Amazing Vocalist from Early Broadway

MOUNT VERNON – For those who will not able to see Lori Turner present Fay Templeton at the Chautauqua Series last year, due to the many storms that brought power outages around  Knox County and surrounding counties, you missed the most gifted vocalist the Chautauqua Series has ever had on our stage. Coming from 10 years of opera performance in Los Angeles and another 10 years with the Royal Swedish Opera Company, Lori retired to the Mansfield area and when she heard about our series, she asked if she could portray one of her heroines, namely, Fay Templeton. And provide an amazing tribute she did. Lori was kind enough to accept our invitation to repeat her program this year and we hope you can make this presentation at ThePlace@TheWoodward (111 S. Main Street, Mount Vernon, OH) on Thursday October 3. Doors open at this first floor facility at 6 PM and the program start with gifted guitarist/singer Joe Rollins Porter at 7 PM, followed by Fay Templeton at 7:45 PM.

So who was Fat Templeton? She was as an American actress, singer and comedienne. Her parents were actors/vaudevillians and she followed in their footsteps, making her Broadway her debut in 1900. Templeton excelled on the legitimate and vaudeville stages for more than half a century. She was a favorite headliner and heroine of popular theater and was George M. Cohen’s favorite singer to write for and why is she not well known to the modern audience? She choice not to have her voice recorded nor make the move to film as those became popular.
