The birth of the Traveling Wilburys was a happy accident. Asked to record a “B” side for the next single from his album “Cloud Nine”, George Harrison decided to ask Jeff Lynde, his producer, where he could knock off a song in a hurry. Jeff called Bob Dylan and he said to come over to his home studio the next day. George grabbed Roy Orbison, who Lynde was also producing at the time, and went over to Dylan’s home. After the song was presented to Harrison’s label, they said it was too good a song to put out as a “B” side of the single. Harrison, Orbison, Lynde and Dylan invited Tom Petty to join the fun and formed the Traveling Wilburys.

This Thursday, July 13 at 7 PM at ThePlace@TheWoodward (101 S. Main Street downtown Mount Vernon), join Jeff Putnam, Desmond Wall and Mike Petee as they portray Roy Orbison, George Harrison and Bob Dylan as they meet at Dylan’s house to write and record the song that would become “Handle With Care.” The evening will present an intimate view of the 3 writers as they explore the new song, share they own songs and show the audience what it is like to be part of the creative process.

The Chautauqua Series in association with the Ariel Foundation, present this first person living history event as part of the 11th season of the only year round monthly Chautauqua Series in the United States. The cost of the event is by donation with the performers on stage receiving the donations. ThePlace@TheWoodward is a first floor theater and fully accessible to people with special needs. Doors open for the event at 6 PM with the program starting at 7 PM with a Question and Answer sessions with the audience immediately after the performance. So any questions you’ve ever wanted to ask Roy Orbison, George Harrison or Bob Dylan, be sure to come.
