These are the type of fascinating stories master storyteller Mark Jordan will share.

Author of “Frankenstein” to Speak at Chautauqua Series
MOUNT VERNON – For as many film adaptations of the story of “Frankenstein”, it is generally not mentioned that the story was written by the wife of famed poet Percy Bysshe Shelly. During the summer of 1816, a group of friends including Percy, Mary and Lord Byron were kept indoors due to an inordinate amount of rainfall. One evening, the literary discussion of the Shelley-Byron party turned toward German ghost stories. Byron suggested each member of the group to write a ghost story in the same vein. In the next few weeks Mary produced a short story which, when expanded, became “Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus”.
On Thursday October 12, Elixir Presents with support from the Ariel Foundation will provide a glimpse into the life of Mary Shelley.  Presented in first person living history style, Tammy Souhrada will bring Mary to life. Tammy has presented Lizzie Borden and Typhoid Mary for the series and is developing a character based on living in the last days of Pompeii for the 2018 season.
This event will be held at The Grand Hotel (12 Public Square) Banquet Room on the lower level of the hotel with doors opening at 6 PM. The program starts at 7 PM with music of the era performed by FolkTails, Mary Shelly at 7:45 and then with a Q&A period with the audience immediately after the program.
Elixir Presents encourages anyone with an interest in learning more about the real people in history and what they were like to come and enjoy a donation based, family friendly and enjoyable evening out with friends and neighbors.
