MOUNT VERNON – Imagine the horror of having your husband killed in a duel and you’re left to support 8 children and pay of his debts. Imagine living another 50 years, repaying all your debts, establishing the first private orphanage in New York and witnessing the birth of a nation and your husband being a vital part of its creation. Imagine the stories a woman who lived to be 97 could tell. You won’t have to imagine any longer. This coming Thursday, February 23, the Chautauqua Series presents Amy K. Stoner as Elizabeth Hamilton.
To those unfamiliar with the Chautauqua concept, it is a living history, first person program. The presenter brings to life a person from the past after having done extension research to show that person as realistically as possible.
These programs are brought to you by Elixir Presents on a donation basis and your donations go directly to the presenters on stage. Everyone is welcome to these entertaining and educational programs that provides a better understanding of our history and goes well beyond what you might read in a text book or filtered through the eyes of history.
Doors to ThePlace@TheWoodward (101 S. Main Street in downtown Mount Vernon, a first floor facility) open at 6 PM, the program starts at 7 PM with a musical presentation by Meg Litteral and the musical group JMJ Crescent. At 7:45 Elizabeth Hamilton will grace the stage and talk about her life. At the end of her presentation, she will open take questions from the audience.
