Chautauqua Welcomes Princess Grace Kelly
Mount Vernon – It used to be that little girls supposedly wanted to grow up to be princesses. Disney animated features strengthened this wish but in reality, there is only one American girl who actually went on to become a princess, Grace Kelly. After embarking on an acting career in 1950, at the age of 20, Grace Kelly appeared in New York City theatrical productions as well as in more than forty episodes of live drama productions on television, became a movie star, and retired from acting at 26 after marrying Prince Rainier of Monaco and had three children, dying in 1982, a day after suffering a stroke while driving, which caused her to lose control of her automobile and crash.
The Chautauqua Series, organized by the members of Elixir, is happy to welcome Grace Mowery to the stage, another talented local actress, as she makes her Chautauqua debut as Grace Kelly. Grace has appeared in many acting productions and is looking forward to bringing the actress who became a princess to our community. Opening for the program is Owl Creek, a musical excursion, based in Mount Vernon and the members bring multiple influences and years of writing to a new blend of music that will bring an enjoyable feeling to the audience.
The Chautauqua is presented on a donation basis, on Thursday January 30 at ThePlace@TheWoodward, located at 111 S. Main Street in downtown Mount Vernon. Doors to this first door facility will open at 6 PM to allow those with special needs such as walkers, wheel chairs and strollers to be helped to their seats. The program starts at 7 PM with Owl Creek, then Grace Kelly and finally a Q&A with Grace.
